Latest Campaign – Link up Clydesdale
At present, Clydesdale as a region is poorly served with regard to access to Edinburgh and the East Coast. There appears to be a perception that because parts of the constituency are served as part of the Glasgow Suburban Network that there will be little demand for direct links to the East Coast. This is simply not the case.
Plans are underway to run a new rail service between Edinburgh and Glasgow via the Carstairs line from 2014. I want to see Clydesdale benefit from this service but to date the Scottish Government has not committed to it actually stopping at Carluke and Carstairs. Better links to the East would help to support employment and additional tourism opportunities.
I want the people of Clydesdale to make their voices heard on this issue and have set up an online petition to help them do so. I am aiming to collect 2,000 signatures and would be grateful if you would add your support. I would also be grateful if you to pass the word along to your friends, family and colleagues encouraging them to visit this page and sign up. The more signatures I can collect, the stronger the message we can send to the Scottish Government that Clydesdale needs this service.
Thank you for your support.
