Campaign 2: Primary Health Care

Improving local health services is vital to securing good quality health care for the people of Clydesdale. In campaigning for this, I have been urging NHS Lanarkshire and the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, to commit to the previous Scottish Executive’s commitment to build several new facilities in the constituency.

While I welcome the news that the re-building of Carluke Health Centre is likely to go ahead, I am disappointed in the Scottish Government’s decision not to follow up on the previous administration’s commitment to build a new community health care casualty unit in Lanark. This facility would have reduced the need for people with minor injuries from having to travel to Wishaw General Hospital, and would also have resulted in a far quicker service. The proposed new community hospital in Lanark is also likely to be shelved which means that our communities continue to be denied access to appropriate modern hospital facilities.

With your support, I will continue to ensure that Clydesdale’s voice is heard when it comes to providing good quality health services, and would welcome any thoughts or concerns you may have about health care in your area.
